This is my portrait by Cida, an Xacriaba Indian. I was born in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, in 1945. I have lived in Venezuela and in Scotland. I have been writing and illustrating children's books for nearly 20 years. I have shown my work in many countries and have been published even in China. I got prizes in France, Spain, Slovakia, Japan and Brazil. But my best prize is when a child says something nice to me. What else? I've been married for 27 years and I have a cat. My husband has three dogs. And, in our house, we get visits from many friends: grownups and youths, birds, squirrels and monkeys. The monkeys eat straight from our hands.
